Hi! I will be your child's school counselor this year. My primary reason for being here is to help your child have a successful school experience. Here at Celina Early Childhood School, we strongly believe in the importance of meeting the social emotional needs of our students and teaching them the skills needed to manage and self-regulate their emotions. As the school counselor at Celina Primary, I will work with students both in and out of the classroom. In the classroom, I will provide lesson on character building skills such as making friends, respecting others, and problem solving. I will also reinforce their social emotional learning by teaching them how to identify feelings and choose appropriate coping skills. When our students social emotional needs are met, only then will they be able to focus and learn the academic skills.
Your child's teacher will also be helping to develop these skills through morning meetings and weekly lessons. I assist by providing them with materials and resources to facilitate these. You too, parents can support this at home. Each month, we will send ZOOM link via school newsletter for our "Coffee with the Counselor". Here I will update you on important events and school procedures as well as introduce the SEL skills we are working on for the month. I include links to activities and book suggestions to for you to support their learning at home. Check under my " Just for Parents" section for the links and activities shared during the "Coffee with the Counselor" Zoom meeting a well as other helpful links just for parents.
As a school counselor, I also work with students individually and at times in small groups. I do not provide long term therapy but can help you find resources in the community if needed. Anytime there are changes in your family dynamics, our young students can be affected in big ways. Feel free to reach out to me and request assistance when needed. I am always ready to help!
