What is the name for Elementary #3? The Board of Trustees unanimously approved to name the campus Bobby Ray & Afton Martin Elementary School. This campus is adjacent to the Jerry & Linda Moore Middle School.

When is the opening date for Martin Elementary? The campus will open for the 2023-24 school year and will serve grades Prekindergarten through fifth-grade.

Will all elementary campuses serve PreK-5th grade starting the 2023-24 school year? Yes, all elementaries are shifting to comprehensive elementary schools. The district’s early childhood program will be housed at Lykins Elementary School.

With the boundary change, does my student who will be in the 5th grade during the 2023-24 school year be required to change schools? Our 2023-24 5th graders may remain at their current campus. In February 2023, CISD will send information to parents on the process for these 5th graders to opt to remain at the current campus.

Can my 2023-24 5th grader’s younger brothers and sisters remain at the same campus? While we recognize the importance for siblings to stay together, a 2023-24 fifth-grader’s siblings will be required to attend their zoned campus. With our district’s fast growth and the need for appropriate school capacity to serve our students, the district is not able to make any additional adjustments.

If my child opts to remain at their current campus, will transportation be provided?Unfortunately, the district is unable to provide transportation outside of the allocated routes for the 2023-24 school year. Therefore, transportation will only be available to students attending their zoned campus who meet the CISD bus transportation requirements.

If my student is rezoned for the 2023-24 school year, could my student be possibly rezoned again at a future date? Yes, this is likely. However, we are working hard to minimize transitions for our families. With this particular rezoning effort, there are families who will be rezoned from O’Dell Elementary to Lykins Elementary for the 2023-24 school year. With the tentative Elementary #4 (located in Cambridge Crossings) boundaries, there will be families who will then move for the 2024-25 school year to Elementary #4, which would be the campus closest to their home. For these impacted families, the Lykins Elementary School staff will create class roosters keeping these students together so they can forge strong friendships and these friendships can transition together.

With the 2019 Bond package, what additional elementary campuses will be funded, when will they open? The Bond 2019 Bond package has funds for Elementary #4, Elementary #5 and Elementary #6. We anticipate the opening of Elementary #4 for the 2024-25 school year and Elementary #5 for the 2025-26 school year. These opening dates are subject to change based on enrollment and other financial considerations. Celina is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas and Celina ISD is focused on trying to be as proactive as possible in opening these campuses as enrollment dictates.

How did the district come up with these student projections? Our district contracts with Zonda Education. Zonda provides quarterly demographic projections that allow the district to monitor housing developments, housing economic conditions and low, medium and high projections.

What goals and priorities does the district have when developing school zones?  As one of the fastest growing school districts in the state, CISD has established the following priorities in making zoning decisions:

  • We believe in neighborhood schools.

  • We believe in prioritizing student safety and maximizing transportation resources.

  • We believe in limiting the number of times families need to move.

  • We believe in utilizing natural, man-made and logical boundaries.

Will my child’s new campus have the same programs as its current campus? Yes, our elementary campuses will offer fine arts, physical education and other academic programs. Specialized programs may be offered at different elementary campuses to maximize student resources.  Overall, every CISD campus will have:

  • Safe, civil, and collaborative culture

  • Effective teaching in every classroom

  • Guaranteed, viable curriculum and district resources

Is there a list of subdivisions by elementary zone? We have made this request to our demographer and we will post it as soon as we receive it.

We will continue to add to this FAQ as more questions are submitted.
