Celina ISD will intentionally integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for learning, creativity, and efficiency, empowering students and educators to deepen understanding, expand ideas, and work more effectively.

Grounded in the belief that education is fundamentally human, we will ensure AI enhances critical thinking, originality, and the productive struggle essential to meaningful learning. AI will serve as a tool for research, clarification, and the expansion of existing ideas, supporting both instruction and efficiency without diminishing authentic thinking.

Through comprehensive training, clear guidelines, and ethical guardrails, we will equip our learners to use AI responsibly, embracing innovation while maintaining academic integrity and personal responsibility. How are teachers using AI to teach?

The foundation of our instructional practices are grounded in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Our district has invested significant time, careful consideration, and financial resources into selecting and providing High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) that support a rigorous, guaranteed, and viable education for our students. Artificial Intelligence is a powerful tool available to enhance and support the implementation of our instructional practices.

Is AI safe to use in the classroom?

When used responsibly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be a safe and valuable tool for learning. Our district only allows the use of AI systems that meet strict safety, privacy, and educational standards. Additionally, all approved resource providers are required to sign our DPA (Data Privacy Agreement). Any AI tools used in our classrooms must comply with federal and state student privacy laws, including:

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act): protects the privacy of student education records
COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act): applies to online services used by children under 13
Texas student data privacy laws: provides additional safeguards around how student data is collected and used

What AI does my child have access to?

Our district provides students with access to carefully selected, school-approved tools that include Artificial Intelligence features to support learning. We currently provide access to MagicSchool, an AI-powered platform designed specifically for education. It is used in structured, teacher-guided ways to support student learning.

In addition, some of the digital tools our students already use include built-in AI features, such as writing support, feedback, or tutoring assistance. These features are part of platforms that have been reviewed and approved by the district.

How do teachers prevent students from misusing AI?

Teachers use a combination of clear expectations, thoughtful assignment design, and active monitoring to ensure Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used appropriately, not as a shortcut. Students are given specific expectations for when and how AI can be used. Just like other tools, using AI in ways that violate assignment guidelines is considered academic dishonesty as addressed in the Celina ISD Student Handbook.

Is AI use appropriate for all grade levels?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) use is always determined by what is developmentally appropriate. Teachers adjust how AI is used based on student maturity, skill level, and the learning goals of the lesson. AI can be appropriate at all grade levels when used thoughtfully, starting with strong teacher guidance in early grades and gradually building toward responsible, independent use as students develop.

What policies are in place for AI use?

All guardians must agree annually to the Celina ISD Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) as defined in CQ(Local). The following Artificial Intelligence clarification is included in the AUP:

The use of AI technology in the PK-12 school district must comply with the district's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). AI technology can be an excellent resource for enhancing learning and teaching experiences, but it must be used responsibly and ethically. Students, teachers, and staff members must ensure that any AI systems they use are age-appropriate and that they do not violate the privacy of other individuals. The use of AI for academic purposes should align with the district's curriculum and instruction goals. Additionally, students, teachers, and staff must use AI tools responsibly, avoiding any form of plagiarism or cheating. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or revocation of access to AI technology. By following these guidelines, we can ensure that AI technology is used appropriately and safely within the PK-12 school district.
