Spring 2020 Optional End-of-Year Assessment Registration

When our children are young, we regularly take them to the doctor for “well visits” to assess their growth and development, and we use what we learn from those diagnostics to help our children flourish. In the same way, it is extremely helpful to assess how well our children are learning math, reading, science, and social studies. Parents and teachers can use that information to make adjustments in what to focus on for each of our students to help them reach their full potential.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is offering all students the opportunity to participate in free, at-home, optional end-of-year (EOY) tests. The results from this activity will show how well your child has mastered grade-level knowledge and skills this year. These tests results are solely to help you support your child and will not be used for accountability purposes for your student or school. You can use the results as you talk with your child’s school about how to best support your student moving forward.

The optional EOY assessments cover the same grades/subjects and courses that are provided for STAAR. They include grades 3–8 mathematics and reading, grades 4 and 7 writing, grades 5 and 8 science, grade 8 social studies, Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History.  Spanish versions of EOY assessments are also available for grades 3–5 mathematics and reading, grade 4 writing, and grade 5 science. Writing assessments do not include a writing prompt and are multiple-choice only, and EOY assessments for Algebra II and English III are not offered.

If you register your child to test, Pearson will work directly with you to provide testing credentials, materials, and results.  If you have more than one student testing, you will need to complete a separate registration form for each child. After registering, you can expect to receive an email with your testing instructions, login, and password within 24–36 hours. From there, follow the link provided to begin your test. Students will have until June 12th to complete their tests. Please see the FAQs published by the TEA for additional information.
