October 2017

In theory, the month of October should bring an end to the blistering heat of our Texas summer months, and even though we live in an area not prone to arctic type conditions, a drop in the temperature finds us all looking forward to autumn colors, hayrides, apple cider and everything pumpkin. Below, you will find a few of the many things that will be happening throughout the district and our community during the month of October.

For the second year, Celina ISD celebrates College Awareness Day on the first Wednesday of each month throughout the school year.  Our students, faculty, and community members are encouraged to wear their favorite college t-shirt.  From the youngest of our Bobcats to our graduating seniors, our students understand the importance of continuing their education at the university level.

Many of our students will be volunteering their time at ParkFest, sponsored by the City of Celina to be held at Old Celina Park on Saturday, October 14th.  Hundreds of vendors from food to clothing and locals artists will be on hand for your shopping pleasures. The CHS School Choir and local country artists will perform on the main stage.  Several of our CHS Thespians will be on hand in the children’s area dressed up as favorite storybook characters and the petting zoo is always a treat for the young and old.

Celina ISD campuses will be closed to students on Monday October 16th, for what is normally referred to as Fair Day. This is a day set aside for students to enjoy the State Fair of Texas located in downtown Dallas at Fair Park.  District faculty and staff members will be involved in professional development workshops and will be holding parent/teacher conferences during the day.  At the end of the week on Friday, October 20th, we will celebrate CHS 2017 Homecoming. The theme for the 2017 Homecoming Parade is “Together As One.”  This builds upon the District theme of “one,” and brings together all that contribute to the success of our students.  From one city to one team, we are and always will be one family.  The District will have Early Release on that Friday, so that students, faculty, and community members can make their way to the town square for the annual Homecoming parade, followed by a spirited pep rally for our Celina Bobcats.

Red Ribbon Week will begin on Tuesday, October 24th through Tuesday, October 31st.  All of our campuses will participate in Red Ribbon week activities that promote being drug free.  The 2017 theme for the week is “Your Future Is Key, So Stay Drug Free!”  Our counselors will be sending more information home to let you know about all of the fun activities scheduled for our campuses during Red Ribbon Week.

It may not be sweater weather in Celina, Texas, but that will not stop us from enjoying the gifts that October brings. From cheering on the Bobcats to watching our students give back to their community, fills our hearts with joy and hope that rivals the beauty autumn brings.
