C-Town to Host Career Exploration Program
C-Town is gearing up for a unique career exploration
program for high school students. Deadline is February 3.
Starting February 6th area students
will be exploring their own talent and taking career exploration to a
whole new level. "We're hosting a program called "Career Coaching for
Students" that enables the student to look at their own personality
make-up and careers that will drive their passions and create greater
success." stated Jill Roza, Community Liaison for C-Town. "The C-Town
program is all about creating a college-like student center environment
and providing high-value, tangible content for the students. Students
will be able to plan their future with confidence. The Career Coaching
for Students program has been held in Celina in past years and has
consistenly been given very high marks by students and parents. Now that
we have C-Town, it is a perfect match to our focus."The Career Coaching for Students program is ideal for any
student in 9th - 12th grade. Students are administered the same
assessments used by companies to evaluate "job fit" of applicants. For
companies to use assessments, the assessments must pass very high
validity and reliability testing. Most student assessments don't meet
those standards.
The program will be facilitated by Carl Nielson,
a professional career coach and organizational consultant who assists
companies in evaluating candidates for everything from quality, R&D
and manufacturing engineering, nursing and nurse management, plumbing
and HVAC technicians to sales positions. Mr. Nielson brings over 25
years in the human capital management experience, holds a degree in
organizational psychology and is a certified professional behavioral
analyst.
"Parents and students are often caught off guard by the cost of
changing majors in college. Extending college by one semester costs
between $10 - $20k. Over 50% of students change majors 3 times. That
makes it very difficult to graduate in the traditional four years."
states Nielson. "This program helps the student to make more informed
decisions about their post-high school plans. It is valuable for any
student regardless of academic achievement or whether they are college
bound or not."
Information is available at C-Town or through the
high school counselors. Deadline for registering is February 3rd.
Seating is limited.
